It isn’t a Crime

Traditionally authors write in a single genre and stick with that one. Writing in a single genre makes marketing your books a doddle as you have a pool of readers who keep coming back because they enjoy the genre. I’m a bit of an anomaly in that I write in many genres, crime, romance, non-fiction and for kids.

Up until recently, I wrote my kid’s books, pony and animal stories aimed at 9–12-year-olds as Jacqui Broderick so they were separate from my Louise Broderick adult titles. For various reasons, I’m now releasing all my books as Louise Broderick.

A Pony for Cait was inspired by my time in Connemara, leading the Connemara Trail. I loved the beauty of the scenery and the incredibly brilliant Connemara ponies I worked with.  While writing books is pretty much a solitary occupation, I get such great pleasure from hearing from readers who take the time to get in touch and say they have enjoyed my books.

This book gave me one of the best experiences of my author life, when one of my young readers dressed up as Cait for World Book Day a few years ago.

A Pony For Cait is the perfect book for pony mad kids from 9 years upwards.

“You can have that pony. If you can catch him.” Cait longs to own a pony, but there is no way her parents can afford to buy one. There is no money since her father stopped work because of a problem with his spine.
When Danny, Cait’s neighbour buys a beautiful Connemara pony and loses it in the mountains it seems like all of Cait's dreams are coming true. Although first, of course she has to catch the pony – not an easy task since he is running wild in the mountains of Connemara.
From the harsh mountain winter of Connemara to the glory of the Dublin Horse show, A Pony for Cait is the story of Cait’s battle to save the life of the pony and to conquer her fear of riding, but even then her problems are far from over when the pony is taken away from her…

Praise for A Pony For Cait.

‘Great traditional pony story.’

‘This was a new book from an author relatively unknown on the pony book and can honestly say it's one of the best new pony stories around now, certainly on a par with the more experienced and popular pony authors.’

‘It is well written and the characters are interesting and believable.’

‘The beautiful Connemara backdrop and the lifestyles of the people in the village bring an originality and a divergence from the run of the mill modern pony story.’

‘Though traditional in feel, this book takes its own original slant on the pony story.’

‘As well as being a pony rescue story and focusing closely on the bond between girl and pony, there is also a fair amount of the competition element in the book, which will suit those who like to have shows and competitions in their pony stories.’

‘The author certainly packs a lot of varying content into her book, making it appeal to a wide range of tastes.’

‘I'm sure this author, if she decides to write more books in the genre, is a great pony book author in the making. Highly recommended.’

‘I enjoyed the book and I hope that there will be a book 2.’

‘A great book, well written and a super story. Highly recommended!!’
