When it rains - write
A Cold and Wet Mid-Summer in Ireland
Mid-summer, or the summer solstice is such a special time. In the northern hemisphere it is the longest day, the pinnacle of the sun’s journey before it slides back down, leaving us in winter.
The summer solstice is the day when the sun rises and shines through ancient monuments, such as Newgrange and Stonehenge in England. It blows my mind to think of the time and effort our ancestors put into these constructions, carefully crafted to celebrate the sun on the special day when it rewarded them by shining through the stone monuments. It’s also mid-winter in Australia. They are looking forward to the arrival of summer, we are dreading the onset of winter – which to be honest isn’t going to look very different from now.
In Galway however it rained all day, icy rain that bounced off the road surface and collected in deep puddles in my garden. In the land surrounding my house the turf, cut and stacked ready to be collected stood beneath leaden skies.
I had such plans for the day, instead I huddled inside, staring resentfully at the rain.
While it wasn’t possible to worship the sun, I did have my own cause for celebration. My latest book, ‘Where Is My Daughter?’ was released.
Where Is My Daughter? Is my second DI Grace Tallis book. It takes the reader back to the beginning, when Grace first joins the Police, and back to Eddie Hammett’s nasty obsession with choosing, capturing and finally killing young, vulnerable women.
What is the book about? In short -
Captive in a dark cellar on an isolated farm in rural Cornwall, after giving birth Glanna Pendrick has an urgent need, to escape before she is killed.
In the beautiful Cornish countryside vulnerable young women are going missing. Eddie Hammett has a nasty obsession; the body count is rising.
Raw recruit WPC Grace Tallis is convinced there is a link between the missing women but no one in the force has any interest in what she thinks.
‘Where Is My Daughter?’ is exclusive to Amazon, it is available as an e-book, on Kindle Select, and also available as a paperback.
It’s been quite a stressful month for this author. I discovered (thank goodness) that not only was my contact email, louise@louisebroderick.com not working, but that readers couldn’t get the free copies of my books that are available on my website. Thanks to some wonderful IT support, from my hero, Bobby, everything is back and working again. So if you want something to read, head over to www.louisebroderick.com and grab a free book.
